Ryan and Clo’s artsy wedding in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles was perfectly laid back and absolutely vibrant. I’ve had the privilege of photographing many weddings at the Grass Room DTLA but this was definitely one of the most unique and whimsical weddings I’ve seen there. Clo and Ryan were able to pull off a day that was both elegant and bursting with personality and intentionality (what more could you ask for as a photographer??)
A hotel room at the Hoxton set the perfect scene for Clo + Ryan to get ready and share a relaxed first look together (we were lowkey obsessed with this cool glowing orb light in the corner which resulted in some super fun artsy photos).
Honestly the coolest floral installation I’ve ever witnessed at a wedding to date. Dad grass, the cutest cocktail garnishes, a pastel pressed flower cake by Spotted Hen Catering. A projection of the guest list, an ornate and artful charcuterie spread, all the jungle vibes and textures courtesy of Grass Room DTLA.

I could honestly hardly believe my eyes when we got to Grass Room, as we were greeted by the most playful and vibrant floral installations all over the venue crafted by the floral wizard Jason Lloyd. We snapped some iconic portraits underneath the ceremony canopy before the event began.
The actual ceremony was so heartfelt and meaningful- each of the parents passed Ryan and Clo’s rings to each other in a symbol of blessing for the couple’s marriage. Guests dressed in their most colorful and patterned attire to help make the celebration feel that much more joyful and exciting. Instead of dancing to traditional wedding songs at the reception, they hired their favorite club dj and got down to chill beats with their fam and friends (this unique + refreshing take on a wedding dance floor was a total crowd pleaser!)
Through all my years as a wedding photographer, I have witnessed some of my favorite celebrations of all time at Grass Room in Downtown Los Angeles. I would highly recommend it as a venue if you are looking for a space that is self-contained and intimate to host your wedding. The ceremony and reception spaces flow seamlessly together, and there are a number of fun little spots in the corners for hanging out and setting up a photobooth or other activities. The styling of Grass Room is highly creative just like the other venues owned by Marvimon Productions– it features unique artwork by various artists in tropical and aquatic themes, and is the perfect setting for an upscale wedding celebration that feels very individual and intentional.
“Amy and her husband John shot our wedding (and engagement photos)! My wife and I are not generally comfortable in front of the camera and the idea of being personal and romantic on film could have been really awkward and scary, but they made it so easy and fun. We had such a good time hanging out with them before the ceremony started, which was fun in its own right but which also led to great photos. It is also very cool that Amy and John are themselves married – the dynamic between the two of them makes it even easier for the couple. We cannot recommend them highly enough.” -Clo and Ryan
