Ok ok. This is one of my favorite engagement sessions of all time! I spent the afternoon with Zac and Cayla exploring the northern side of Joshua Tree National Park and we found some AMAZING spots including a whole crown-like range of towering rocks and a couple of huge boulders that look like fists. The light was freaking perfect all afternoon, and the moon even made it into one of our photos. Not only were C and Z down for anything including dodging cactus and climbing piles of rocks (and you HAVE to be down for anything if you want to do your engagement photos in a place like Joshua Tree haha) but they also came to their session with the most thought out and coordinated outfits that they JUST bought the night before, and if that’s not something that makes a photographer want to cry happy tears I don’t know what is!
Side note: gonna play park ranger/mom/ecologist over here for a second- if you are thinking of photographing or getting photos done in Joshua Tree it’s insanely important that you take measures to stay safe and respect the environment. Do your research beforehand, and download your google map of the park because there is little to no cell service. Have a full tank of gas. Bring water and a jacket. Stay on the paths for your safety (even though it is a National Park it is also a desert with creatures and cactus that mean business). Stay on the paths for the safety and preservation of the landscape (the plants you see might seem like dry sticks but they are an important part of the biologically diverse ecosystem of the Mojave Desert, and can be dozens to hundreds of years old). And lastly remember that just because you see it on Instagram, doesn’t mean it’s safe! Every natural area that you visit deserves your respect and care. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk, now look at some rad photos!
